As a small business owner it has taken me these past two weeks to digest and not only understand what is happening in our world right now, but wrap my head around so many people and industries that have been affected by this global pandemic.
If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen the video I reposted of the campaign #BuyFlowersNotToiletPaper, and the tragic reality fresh cut flowers and farmers are facing at Royal Flora Holland. Right now, the floral industry is taking a huge hit. Our company has witnessed many of our customers postponing weddings, and events, which I applaud everyone of my customers for doing. But, reality is, the flower farms were not ready for this sudden epidemic and the flowers for those events have already been grown, bunched and were about to be shipped, but no longer had homes to go to. As someone who has been in the floral industry since 1990, I am grieving for these farmers and the wonderful products that they have grown for all of us for so many years. The decline in flower sales has put these growers, and distribution centers directly in the path of economic turmoil coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I truly believe we are going to get through this. Humanity is a strong and enduring race, who has faced many struggles throughout our history. We are connecting as a community in ways larger than ever. This campaign is fiercely close to my heart and I hope to express to all of you how important it is to support those who have brought stunningly beautiful flowers into our lives and homes. It is about saving these farmers so that when we begin to come back out of our houses and start our daily routines again, these flower farms are able to grow like they were before.
Our company is now working remotely. We are continuing to bring our customers ideas on how to be Creative In Quarantine and also how to Save the Growers. Please continue to frequent our site and review our social media channels to receive ideas. I want each and everyone one of you to know: We Are Here For You! The FiftyFlowers team is hard at work to help our customers navigate how to bring flowers into their lives and help our customers during unforeseen changes to their events. Please also see our statement regarding COVID-19.
I am beyond thankful for my FiftyFlowers team in the U.S. and Ecuador, our customers for your continued support, small businesses that are enduring the same challenges we are and to our first responders, nurses and doctors all over the world. Thank you for your tireless effort to help so many people in distress. #BondWithFlowers
