Searching for a long-lasting flower that can withstand being without water for a few hours? Carnations may be your answer! Carnations are a super hearty flower that comes in a large selection of colors, including royal purple, which is so hard to find naturally. These flowers are also very affordable, making them a popular choice for DIY wedding projects and DIY kid projects too!
We teamed up with our friend, Janie Medley, of The Bride’s Cafe, to create a fun DIY display using carnations. This blooming carnation board is perfect for seating assignments, or to use as a colorful backdrop.
Here’s what you’ll need to create this carnation display board:
- Carnations (mixed pink carnations from FiftyFlowers.com)
- Picture frame
- Foam board
- Pearl pins
- Duct tape

1. Measure and Cut
Place the frame over the foam board. Starting with the sides, cut the board down to the size of the picture frame.
2. Secure the Foam Board
Tape the foam board to the back of the picture frame with duct tape.
Here’s the completed frame!
3. Add Your Carnations
Place the frame on the easel and insert the pearl pins through the middle of the carnation head to attach them to the board.
Look at how beautiful the completed board is!
4. Attach the Escort Cards
Finally, attach the escort cards to the board with a pearl pin. That’s it!
