Hi Y’all! Today, I have a special guest post to share with you! Morgan contacted me a few weeks ago as she is in the process of helping plan her sisters wedding and she follows our blog! 🙂 She wanted to share some other aspects of the planning process and I thought…Great Idea! I know, we usually talk flowers, and although I don’t always like to admit it, flowers aren’t the only important part of the planning process. So, today Morgan is going to share her ideas on DIY Wedding Favors! Enjoy!
DIY Wedding Favor Ideas by Morgan Gray
As my sister’s maid of honor, I was in charge of the wedding favor frenzy – a task I actually loved! Just be sure to keep a few things in mind, like how many guests will be attending the wedding, your budget for favors (DIY can get expensive if you do not plan ahead and shop around), if people will be able to use the favors after the wedding and how you can use them during the wedding (as a wedding favor AND an escort card or a wedding favor AND a centerpiece). Below are a few of my favorite fun ideas I have come across for DIY wedding favors, one of which we used ourselves!
A fun, cute idea is to buy some mini planters and beautiful succulents, and then you can hand paint the planters in your wedding colors or theme. I think they are the perfect gift because not only are they wonderful to look at, but they are also extremely easy to take care of. You can also attach each guest’s name to one with a table number and just like that you have both a wedding favor as well as an escort card.
What could go wrong with some homemade cookies? They are delicious, easy to make, and everyone loves them! It’s a good way to incorporate all the members of the family and wedding party that we wanted to thank. First what we did was ask those close to us what their favorite cookie was or thought about different cookies that had some sort of story or significance. I utilized my sister’s bridal shower registry as a way to get pretty platter and container ideas that would match the decor, and after baking many, many different types (the house smelled DELICIOUS), we arranged the cookies on personalized platters, made pretty labels, and then left colored paper bags next to them at the wedding reception. That way they can set themselves up with a delicious bag of cookies for the car ride home or as a midnight snack!
Everyone loves taking pictures! And while you can still have a professional photographer and guests can still snap some pics with their phones, try leaving an instant polaroid camera as a centerpiece for every table. Guests will have a great time using the camera and will be able to take some hilarious candids that might have otherwise be missed. Plus they can then take pictures home with them after the wedding as a little souvenir. Since there probably won’t be a need for you to keep all of those cameras yourself after the reception, you can have your wedding DJ or band raffle them off or give them away as prizes for different dance competitions or other games.
Remember… Have fun with it! If you are making something, you can make it a family affair or ask your bridal party to help you create wonderful favors in a day. Whatever you decide to do just make sure it represents the bride because above all it is her special day. What are some of your favorite favors of weddings you’ve been to?
