The Hypericum Berry is a wonderful filler flower that features an average of 12-14 berries per stem. The round or elliptical berries appear on short-branched clusters atop thin, smooth, leafy stems. Each berry is collared by small sepals, which are the small leaf-like greens that protect the buds of flowers. Hypericum berries are available year round and have a vase life of about 7 – 10 days depending on care and environment.
On arrival, unpack the Hypericum immediately by removing any packaging and bindings and check the quality. You will want to remove any leaves that will fall under the water line in your storage/hydration buckets, as this can cause mold and bacteria. Many people prefer to remove all the leaves, as the Hypericum leaves tend to wilt easily, so you can simply enjoy the berries themselves. Once unpacked and the desired leaves are removed, cut stems, about an inch from the bottom, on an angle with a sharp blade and place in a bucket of shallow water. Allow to hydrate for at least two hours and change or add water every couple days or as needed. Store in a cool, dark place away from excessive drafts or sunlight.
Hypericum Berries are great for adding texture to bouquets, arrangements and boutonnieres. They also make a great addition to Holiday decorations, and can be used in wreaths, bunched in garland, or arranged in table centerpieces. Hypericum comes in a variety of colors including, burgundy, red, pink, peach, yellow, white, and green, so no matter what your color scheme, you can find a berry that works for you!
