With the Wildflower Wedding look taking the lead as hottest wedding trend in 2016, it’s the perfect time to highlight an awesome addition to this theme–Scabiosa! These adorable blooms have a domed bloom with lots of tiny petals surrounding a pincushion-like center, and most have whimsically curved stems giving them a feel similar to ranunculus. (Though if you’d prefer that they stand straight up, that can be achieved with the help of floral wire!) Scabiosa flowers are related to the Honeysuckle, and historically signify admiration for the recipient.
With their fun, carefree appeal pairs beautifully with Veronica, Nigella, Astilbe, and any kind of soft greenery. Or take the easy route and simple place a stem or two into bud vases for a super easy–and super cute–table runner or centerpiece. Check out the setup we put together below, plus a bonus boutonniere!
Feeling inspired? We also have a contest going on Facebook to name one of the new varieties of Scabiosa that we’ll be adding to the site! The Facebook commenter who comes up with our favorite name for the color will receive a $50 Gift Certificate for FiftyFlowers, and–of course–bragging rights 🙂 Head over to our Facebook page for more details on the contest!
