Thanksgiving is here! There is so much to love about this holiday; giving thanks, the gatherings of friends and family, and the food! Have you thought about combining your Thanksgiving holiday plans with a small wedding ceremony? Or host your own elopement during your Thanksgiving 2020 dinner?
As a florist, I absolutely love the elopement style of weddings. One of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow is @AdventureInstead. Their team of Colorado-based photographers is game to hike onto any mountain, glacier or natural wonder to photograph your incredibly intimate wedding. So when 2020 went sideways, the wedding industry taking a huge hit and rapid evolution, I have to admit I was elated to see the elopement or intimate wedding gathering become a trend. And now as I start to think about the Thanksgiving holiday, I would encourage all of you who have been trying to find a new way to make your wedding happen, to take advantage of the gathering you could be taking part in on that day. Whether it’s virtually or with a select few, now is a perfect time!
So, what would it take to plan your Thanksgiving Minimony? FiftyFlowers has you covered! From fresh-cut flowers to pre-made Collections, and many helpful Youtube videos.
The Essentials for any Minimony:
Wedding License!
This is probably wise to get first. Check your local wait times or license availability in your city to make sure you can get your license for the day you are wishing to elope.
Officiant!
The person who marries the couple! In some states, this is as essential as the wedding license. But in just a few states, a couple can self-solemnize (getting married without a third-party). These states are Colorado, California, District of Columbia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The rest of the United States requires a third party, an officiant, but as always, be sure to check in with your local government’s requirements.
Flowers!
After you get the legal paperwork taken care of, flowers are ABSOLUTELY at the top of your list to purchase for your minimony! FiftyFlowers offers several options when it comes to wedding flowers. With the quick turn around of putting together this event, I encourage you to look at our pre-made Wedding Collections. These are a budget-friendly and simply stunning option for anyone looking to save time and not have to arrange their flowers. The other option I have for anyone looking to show off their creative DIY skills is to check out the multitude of DIY combo boxes that FiftyFlowers offers.
Our talented wedding consultant, and former florist, Emily, suggests these five combos for anyone looking to have their wedding flowers be complementary to fall, but also long-lasting and easy to work with:
- Funky Fall Flower package for Weddings
- Autumn Sunset Fall Wedding Pack
- Floral Centerpieces Sunflowers and Fall Colors
- Oxblood and Sage DIY Combo Pack
- Fall Ornamental Grass Greenery Collection
If you find yourself looking for a guiding light in the flower planning portion of your wedding or event, be sure to schedule your appointment with Emily ASAP. She is a flower wizard!
All of these packages come in a variety of sizes, so you can either focus on the flowers for just you and your partner or decorate the entire space that you’ll be getting married in.
The Outfits!
Your outfit doesn’t need to be fancy, but also feel free to get as extravagant as you want! Plenty of wedding dress or tuxedo shops will be more than eager to sell you something in what is typically their slow period. Or it can be as simple as browsing the white garment section at a local shop which I saw with my own eyes when my dear friend eloped.
Fun Fact: I’m an ordained minister!
Rings!
You might already have these picked out and waiting to be exchanged if your wedding was disrupted by COVID, but don’t stress if you don’t! Again, many jewelry stores were affected by COVID and will be ecstatic to help you find rings.
Photographer!
No matter if it’s a professional photographer, your uncle’s Canon, or just your iPhone, be sure to document the awesome celebration that you and your spouse are performing. And of course, I’m going to want to see it, so be sure to tag @FiftyFlowers on any social media channels. We love to see the flowers you create from our packs or from our pre-made centerpieces.
This is why Thanksgiving is the perfect time to host your minimony; the food is already a given!
Guests!
The guest list is entirely customizable since COVID has shaped many of our holidays this year. Be sure to check your city, state, and CDC guidelines for gatherings in your area. I know that they differ across the country. Your gathering could take place at the one house you are spending the day at, or be hosted virtually with all the friends and family you want, online, or with proper safety measures, you and your spouse could take to the streets, greeting each one of your family’s and friends at their respective Thanksgiving celebration like a parade of wedded bliss! OR! if you’re like me, enjoy a quiet day of love and solitude with that person you’ve married, with a very special dinner and party for two!
I’ll leave you with some parting words of advice: You’ve got this! Your wedding no matter how it happens is going to be fantastic, and at the end of the day, you will be married to that one person you love the most. FiftyFlowers has made it effortless to achieve the perfect Thanksgiving elopement with all the stunning Wedding Collections and DIY Combo Boxes available on the website. Our team is always here to help you get from point A to Z with your wedding flowers. We also feature several helpful videos on our Youtube where I share many of my flower shop tips.
