Wedding Flower Trends for 2013!

Over the past few weeks, (can you believe it’s already Feb.!) I have reported on some of the wedding trends we expect to see in 2013, but today I want to share some trends specific to wedding flowers! With over ten years in the wholesale wedding flower business and over 50,000 brides served, the team here at has some amazing insight on what is trending right now! Our wedding flower predictions for 2013 include lush, full flowers in pastel or nature inspired hues, coupled with beautiful textural flowers arranged in free flowing designs by the do-it-yourself bride.

Last year was the year of the Mason jar, simple and fresh designs with a minimalistic and rustic vibe seemed to abound. We are predicting 2013 to be a more elegant affair, with more oversized flowers in soft romantic colors taking center stage. Elevated, grandiose arrangements and large footed or pedestal vases will add to the luxurious feeling of these flowers. Full flowers such as hydrangeas, peonies, garden roses and gerrondo gerbera daisies will fill vases this year.

Brides will be looking for a romantic color pallet, with pastels and warm, nature inspired hues making a huge statement. “Blushing tans, sandy clays and muted pinks will be popular colors set against rich natural greens that embrace the personality of the venue,” predicted Lily, one of our Customer Service Representatives. A few of Lily’s favorite flowers for this color scheme include our Timeless Cream Rose, Quick Sand Cream Rose, Antique Lavender Spray Roses, and Garden Rose Soft Pink O’Hara. We are expecting the flowers to take their queue from the natural setting. For example, ocean side weddings will incorporate blue and tan accents; garden weddings will feature bolder colors and rustic barn weddings will feature aged red and buttercream yellow flowers.

More brides are taking on DIY projects, not because they have to financially, but because they want to play a bigger role in planning their wedding day. Personalization is at the heart of the 2013 wedding and brides will be willing to try more elaborate and ornate DIY projects. They will be aided by the shifting trend away from the round-molded bouquets and centerpieces, to the natural, garden style bouquet with free flowing flowers and textural additions. Expect to see texture added through another trending item, succulents. Brides love the unique shapes and colors of succulents and the way they beckon for guests to reach out and touch them. Other textural flowers and greenery likely to be sought-after in 2013 include celosia, lambs ear, dusty miller and fiddlehead fern. These unique items make it easy for the DIY flower designer to add a special touch to any design.
