A Boomer Sooner Romance

Bri Franzen (Bride) CACHE, OK
I am a Chicago-Suburb native, whereas my husband Hunter is from the small town of Cache, Oklahoma, so we frequently are asked how on Earth we ended up together. Our story starts with another story. When I was young, my family drove through Oklahoma on a camping trip to the Grand Canyon. For whatever reason, I fell in love with the state of Oklahoma and became somewhat obsessed with wanting to move there. Thus, when it was time to decide where I should attend college, the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) quickly rose to the top of my list. After actually touring the campus, I only fell even more in love with the beauty of the school and the hospitality of the Oklahoma people. While it was ... a difficult decision, I opted to move 12 hours from my closest friends and family and make the move down to Norman, Oklahoma to start school. It was only on my third day of school that I met my now-husband, Hunter. I arrived to my class early and was trying to find a spot to sit down to wait for the lecture hall to open up, only to find your stereotypical frat guy taking up an entire bench to himself jamming out to some song on his phone, oblivious to the world around him. I politely asked him if he could move his backpack so I could sit down, and the rest is history. It didn't take him long to ask me on a date, and we were inseparable from that point on. We often took strolls across the beautiful campus, and one evening stumbled across a fountain surrounded by rose bushes. It was at that fountain that we had many late night conversations about life, what we wanted to do, where we wanted to go, shared our first kiss, and on the day of my graduation on May 13, 2017, Hunter proposed and we promised we would spend the rest of our lives together. I couldn't ask for a better husband and best friend; it must have been fate that my childhood obsession would bring me to meet the man of my dreams! We had our wedding at Hunter's family's horse ranch on June 9, 2018. I am currently an Optometry student, so our budget was pretty tight and we tried our best to cut costs where we could. I had taken a floral class in high school and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would try to make our flowers for our wedding myself. Boy am I happy I did! I loved being able to make my own flowers because I could make them exactly how I wanted. I was able to mess around with a few different designs before finalizing the look I wanted, and then one of my bridesmaids and I went to town putting everything together. All said and done, we had the most beautiful flowers for a fraction of the price I would have paid with a florist, and they were exactly what I wanted! Fifty Flowers made the whole process a breeze too. They had online consultants that were available to answer any questions I had about ordering the flowers, and they made delivery a breeze even to the middle of bo-dunk no where! The flowers arrived a few days before the wedding to give the flowers time to rest and open up (and time for me to work with them!). One really nice feature of Fifty Flowers was that they texted me throughout the process to let me know when my flowers were en route to the house, and when they were delivered, along with instructions on how to care for each type of flowers. Not only was getting the flowers a breeze, but the quality of the flowers themselves is just outstanding. Our wedding was outdoors on a 90+ degree sunny day, and the flowers held up beautifully throughout the entire day. They didn't wilt or fall apart, I really couldn't have asked for anything more. If you are considering Fifty Flowers and doing your flowers yourself, I'd say yes, yes, yes! Show more

Flowers Used for Bri Franzen's Arrangements

Extra-Large pack is an understatement, this pack came with more eucalyptus than we knew what to do with! Our wedding was pretty large (~300 people + a wedding party of 20), so it was great to have extra branches to add here and there. It was so beautiful and fresh, and the smell helped to keep everyone calm (which was much needed!!). We used this in all of our pieces and to help decorate the aisle for our ceremony. It was really nice to use because it is a much thicker greenery and can be used to tape other flowers to/support them to keep your bouquets from falling apart easily (which was a major plus for our wedding being a southern Oklahoma June wedding)!

I got 200 pink salmon roses, 300 carnation in a mix of both white and pink, the white snowball peruivian lilies for my filler flower, bear grass as my soft greenery bunches, and the eucalyptus seeded bunches for my hearty greenery bunches and I could not have asked for a more perfect combination! First of all, all of the flowers arrived two days before the event and were of phenomenal quality. The roses were HUGE, and the lilies were the perfect size to be a nice texture contrast to our mix. Our wedding colors were navy and pinky-salmon. There are about a billion variations of salmon ranging from more orange to hot pink, so I was a little worried that the roses might not be quite the color I wanted. However, they matched everything absolutely perfectly and ended up being the main focus of our flower arrangements. I got so many compliments on how pretty they were!

Can you really ever go wrong with baby's breath? We ordered this as a filler to add into the bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres, and about everything in between. They helped to give everything a fuller look and really round out the shape of our arrangements. They arrived fresh, perky, and were able to hold up great on a hot Oklahoma June day!
