Blue Ridge Love Story

Francesca Pilarinos (Bride) ASHEVILLE, NC
My grandmother grew up in a small flower shop that her family owned in New York City back in the 20's. Knowing we would have her guidance and support, we made the terrifying decision to tackle our DIY flowers for the wedding. Fifty Flowers made the planning process really easy to start – with our own personal flower expert my mother worked closely with her to decide what flowers we needed to fulfill my overall vision. This was quite a task, considering my colors were dusty blue, greys and whites ( you certainly don’t see many blue flowers!) But we ordered the flowers and somehow the vision started to pull together. Friday Night before the wedding, my bridesmaids and I went over to ... my mother’s house to help prep the flowers. Though we had to ask for the flowers earlier than recommended, every single stem and leaf was perfect! My five bridesmaids, my mother and I worked until nearly 2 AM cutting, dipping and placing the flowers in water so they would open in time. Our poor hands were rubbed raw through de-thorning and our legs and backs so tired from standing/squatting and otherwise trying to find a comfortable position to prep thousands of flowers! Little did we know how incredible all of this hard work would turn out. Saturday afternoon, my mother and a couple of other aunts and cousins assembled everything. My bridesmaids and I were completely surprised with the results! Not only did my mother create the typical centerpieces, bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres, she also created the wedding arch, a rose-studded garland for the staircase (nearly 50 feet long), decorated the cake with flowers, and had aisle markers in old silver French flower buckets. Little did we know that she tackled most of this alone! My bridesmaids and I arrived at the venue at 4 pm on Sunday, and of course, Hurricane Nate decided to crash our wedding! While the wicked rain was falling on the windows, I started to really feel my nerves kick in. Our initial plan had been for an outdoor wedding, and I was terrified that this dramatic change in plans would not truly show what I had been dreaming of for months. When I walked into the doors of our venue, I was in AWE when I saw the setup. My vision had completely come true! There were just so many flowers! Even though we weren’t actually getting married in the garden as planned, the arrangements made you feel as though you had walked into an enchanted forest. I was most in awe of my bridal bouquet. That beautiful arrangement must have weighed at least 30 pounds. It was artfully crafted and for less than half the cost of going to a florist! In my wildest dreams, I would never have expected my wedding to turn out so beautifully. I’m truly lucky to have such an incredible support system from my family and a talented mother. Thank you FiftyFlowers for making my dream a reality! Show more

Flowers Used for Francesca Pilarinos's Arrangements

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets

The bride squealed with joy when we opened the Antique Blue Jumbo Hydrangea. The dusty blue and pale green with cream were the exact colors we'd hope they be and they were fabulously enormous. Each head was 12 to 14 inches in diameter. We were nervous about the care of hydrangeas and friends had told us horror stories about how quickly the can go limp. But not these! They were packaged meticulously with each head wrapped individually and the stems all had their own hydration pack carefully attached. These flowers formed the base of all our design and the bride's bouquet contained 3 of them so you can imagine how lush and romantic her bouquet looked. We also used these in galvanized, French flower buckets as aisle markers. Every bride considering adding a touch of dusty blue needs to purchase these!

Gunnii Ecualyptus flowers for Weddings
Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets

Thrilled that our FiftyFlowers consultant recommended the Gunni Eucalyptrus. With it's smaller oval leaf the Gunni's create a lace-like arching effect. They are easy to work with and filled out every arrangement. Their grey-green color added to the misty, unstructured look we wanted to achieve.

Eucalyptus Greenery for Weddings
Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets

The scent of this collection is so soothing. Wished our package had less of the rigid medium stems and more of the round and seeded variation. We used these stems everywhere and made the rounded leaves the backdrop for our boutonnieres with a sprig of the seeded stem for contrast. the groom's bout also featured a small succulent and along with the white lisianthus which made his boutonniere really stand out.

Blue Thistle Wedding Flowers

Thistle Blue Flower ( 10 bunches or 100 stems )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets

It's a challenge to find blue colored flowers but these Thistle Blue not only added that touch of blue we wanted, they also bring terrific texture and whimsy to every arrangement. Love, love, love

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Corsages, Boutonnieres

So happy our FiftyFlowers consultant recommended the Hypericum Berries. They added the finishing touch, like having having little pearls in every arrangement. These are sturdy yet dainty and were equally perfect in centerpieces as they were in boutonnaires.

Used for: Other

Once again our FiftyFlowers consultant's expertise helped us to choose this garland for its fullness and textural variety and we were not disappointed. Studded with short-stemmed roses and the Hypericum and Lisianthus made this garland a standout as it was first featured on our ceremony arbor and then during cocktails brought inside and zip tied to the 25-foot staircase along with tiny fair lights- just a magical piece.

White Wholesale Roses

White Ecuadorian Roses ( 200 Medium Stemmed Roses )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Corsages, Boutonnieres

We made a special request that Polar Star White be included and the grower generously accommodated us, along with some utterly lovely blushing white roses. All of the roses opened perfectly after being trimmed and dipped into Quick Dip. Their scent was heavenly and they were packaged perfectly to make sure everything arrived undamaged.
