Ethereal Fall Garden Wedding In The Heart Of CT

Sara Helm (Bride) FARMINGTON, CT
We could not have asked for a more beautiful November day - brilliant blue sky, and there were still colorful leaves on the trees! The whole event felt ethereal and lovely, but comfortable. We kept our ceremony guest list small, and our reception guest list bigger, but modest. Our caterer provided us with a fantastic assortment of delicious options- I could not recommend them more highly. And the flowers, oh! You're here for the flowers. Let me talk a little about the experience. I was ambitious in setting out to do the flowers for the wedding. I knew that it would be a little bit stressful, but I also knew that I had an idea in mind of what i wanted them to look like, and I felt that myself ... and my girls were the people who could make that a reality. I am so thrilled with how they came out. They could not have been more beautiful and vibrant, and it was amazing how beautifully they tied into the color of the sky, and the russet peachy tones of the leaves- just gorgeous. Ultimately we made 8 small centerpieces, 4 medium centerpieces, 2 large crock centerpieces, 4 wreaths, 2 bridesmaid bouquets, and the bridal bouquet. The quality was fantastic, and there really was minimal waste. I did go with the suggested date delivery that was indicated for each different item on my order. I highly recommend thinking about shape as well as color, and I found the FiftyFlowers flower consultant to be an excellent resource. Working with her (I had a very clear idea of what I wanted) actually decreased the number of items that I purchased, and they added a discount. I would recommend spending some time doing your homework before reaching out to a flower consultant. I spent a good amount of time narrowing down my items and made sure to include those items as favorites in the form that they have you fill out in preparation for your consultation. Working with the consultant then gave me a strong idea of the quantity that I should order - with tweaks here and there for color. I reached out to schedule the consultation through their help chat. Flowers Used for Sara Helm's Arrangements

Vendela Ivory Rose ( 25 Roses (Allow 4 Business days for delivery) )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

Gorgeous, these were so beautiful, and I almost wish I had gotten the larger number of these roses. They do have greenish guard petals on the outside, but they have the most beautiful shape to them. We used these throughout the arrangements. Great value.

These did not bloom all the way to the ends, it's worth mentioning, but I did not mind. I don't need all of my flowers to be at peak bloom- I like to have some bud stage flowers, and enough of the stalk was blue for it to be clear that these were a blue element. We used these for the station table accents and the ceremony floral arrangements. We had plenty left over, and they are still blooming their way up the stalk as we speak. These were droopy when exposed to heat, but they perked right back up when introduced to a cooler location. We did manage to get these in a cool room for keeping overnight before the ceremony, A few made it into the fridge in arrangements. These were an absolutely beautiful light blue with faintest hint of purple. Just what I was hoping for.

Thistle Blue Flower ( 50 stems )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

These were a striking contrast to the fluffy frilly flowers of the bouquet. They lent a really beautiful wild look to our bouquets. We used them everywhere and still had plenty left over. They did close a little bit over time without water (in wreaths, hair), but they were fairly hardy and did better in my hair than most of the flowers would have without water. They also added a nice pick-like element that gave some of the other flowers some structural support.

Silver Brunia Balls ( 5 bunches )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

Amazing quirky little feature that tied in visually with our pearl jewelry. I loved these and had a lot of questions about them! Though pricey, there were more than enough to go around.

Pink Antique Garden Rose ( 36 Garden Roses )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

These made me a little bit nervous, they're the only item that I started to worry might bloom past their prime before the event. They did not, but they did open way up. I preferred them slightly less open then they ended up being, but I do not regret purchasing them and using them. Such a strikingly beautiful color.

Choose Your Own Eucalyptus Greenery Premium Pack ( Small Pack or 10 Bunches may choose up to 2 varieties )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Other

There was a slight snafu, and we were sent willow instead of silver dollar. After working with Fifty flowers, we had an order of silver dollar shipped to us free of charge. Came the following day without skipping a beat. I do wish we'd been able to get gum-drop, but what we did have was nice, The leaves were not altogether too fragrant, but the seeds when split gave a wonderful aroma. Used everywhere. ended up using the willow for wreaths on the tables and the small table centerpieces, and it was perfect, so we lucked out there. There were a number of the seeded sprays that came in damaged, but I don't think we had too discard much.

this had serious heft! It smelled absolutely divine! We used it draped across our gift table - we had originally planned to have this up on the ceremony site, but last minute nixed it due to time constraints. looked gorgeous on the table.

Pink Wink Blush Rose ( 25 Roses (Allow 4 Business days for delivery) )

Used for: Centerpieces

These were such a surprise - I don't know why they get so little love. They were the most beautiful subtle champagne-y-peach shade in the center, with a neutral leaning cool toned light pink on the outside. These were the most beautiful shape - they arrived a day earlier than the garden roses. We kept them cool overnight and they were in the refrigerator the night prior to the ceremony. These did open up quite a bit more after our event. Enough that they looked like almost entirely different roses! Super beautiful and highly recommended. Not the most fragrant of the roses, but so pretty.

Whimsical Garden Rose Sample Pack ( Whimsical Sample Pack )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Other

Beautiful - I can't recommend these variety packs enough. They're the best value for your dollar for the cabbage/garden rose varieties. We picked the powder pink, the ivory whipped and true white garden rose, The true white garden roses were a mixed bag in terms of size, some were rather small and closed. Again, I don't mind having various stages of openness, so this was not a big deal. The ivory peony roses from this collection were quite ball-like in shape and looked just like peonies as they are beginning to bloom, Most of these had a slight pink edge on the petals. They were very pretty, but didn't take up a huge amount of space in the bouquet. The blush pink roses were spectacularly beautiful and smelled the most amazing of all of the roses we selected. We were able to put these in the fridge overnight. I am thinking if we had given them a half day more out of the fridge, we would have seen additional blooming. Live and learn. I'm hoping for an encore of the blush pink order of these for our anniversary ;)

These provided a really unique look to my bouquet - the white blush anemones with the dark center were featured in my stationery, so I knew I had to have them in my bouquets and centerpieces. They do have delicate stems! There were a small number that got crushed before we realized that the stems could split with too much pressure. They were absolutely beautiful in the bouquets, though. The hydrangeas were lush and large and made beautiful bases for the larger station table and ceremony arrangements. I did learn a trick that after trimming you dip in Alum powder and it makes them last longer. Really does seem to work, my hydrangeas were going strong for daysss. These do need a lot of water, so keep your eye on them! I expected the ranunculus to be touchy with the stems, but they weren't my toughest customer. They did have a really neat little cup shape and dark centers that added an interesting element to the bouquet. The scabiosa were a little difficult in that the necks drooped a bit. They did come with little neck sleeves, so I'm not sure if we removed those too quickly or if they were supposed to stay on? Ultimately we were able to use the surrounding flowers to prop up any droopy heads, and they added beautiful texture to the bouquets. Don't regret getting then, but do want to note that they may not work as stand-alone flowers for you.

these provided such gorgeous detail and texture to our floral arrangements. I didn't realize they would be so petite- but they were perfect.
