Nephew's New Orleans Wedding
Lori Dyer (Aunt of Groom) New Orleans, LA
The wedding and reception was in the Warehouse District of New Orleans. With the high ceilings, exposed beams and brick, and wood floors, I decided an architectural treatment for my "can vases" would look nice. I wrapped my cans with Lincrusta wallpaper, painted butter yellow, then white, then dry brushed with black with a final coat of clear poly. Circa 1800's antique pressed tin ceilings was the look I was going for!
I used Gardenia greens from my neighbor's and my yards, along with seeded eucalyptus, white spray roses, ivory white hydrangea, white centerpiece with height pack, and blue thistle from FiftyFlowers. Ever since Violet suggested the white centerpiece with height pack in 2012, it
has become my gift to the bridal couple...also my safety net! I just love the flower choices.
With these flowers I made: 5 bouquets for the bride and her attendants; 5 nose gay bouquets for moms and grandmas (way easier than making corsages!); 8 bouts for the groom, his attendants, the dads and a grandpa; 13 large centerpieces for bar counter, high top tables and 72" round tables; and 9 small arrangements displayed in clusters of three for other display areas. I also made two garlands of greenery and flower picks for the arch and two arrangements in the planters at the base of the arch with greenery, blue thistle, and four hydrangea each in water tubes. I loved the pop of texture the blue thistle gave against the white flowers. The girls wore navy dresses, guys in grey, white dress shirts, and navy ties with white Fleur de Lis.
We recycled the arrangements for the brunch tables the next day. Then we gave them to the front desk of the hotel we were staying at and they decorated the hotel with them! I love to reuse and recycle!
After the wedding, everyone was calling me "the flower lady." I've offered to do the flowers for one of the bridesmaids May 2018! I love to help others and share this gift that my mom shared with me 5 years ago, when we did my daughter's Hilton Head, SC beach wedding in May 2011!
A+ for all flowers. Blown away at the quality of blooms and packaging.
