Survived The Heat And Put On A Good Show

Katherine Higgins (Friend) Jemez Springs, NM
I'd say the most nerve-wracking part of doing the flowers for this wedding (not my first floral rodeo) was transporting them from my house up to the wedding location in the mountains. My husband helped secure the centerpieces in the shipping boxes - don't ditch those! - and the loose flowers were in buckets with some icey water, but the Vehicle of Choice was an un-air conditioned old van and it was 100F out that day. BUT, they made it better than I expected (carnations and Baby's breath are champions, in particular). The second most stressful thing was when the large refrigerator, with temperature dialed up to be flower-friendly, decided to wonk out and freeze the lilies anyway AND wilt some ... freesia about 3 hours before game time. Thank heavens the bouquets were in a part of the fridge that stayed warm enough. This is why you order a few extra. With luck, you'll end up with extras to dot around the reception site and just call it a beautiful surplus. I really appreciated the variety off the Purple Passion centerpieces and recommend ordering something similar, within your look, to boost the type and texture of blooms and greens your ordering. It freed up the budget to have more to choose from, without having a ton of, say, 3 main blooms. All in all, the bride was happy and it was a success. Show more

Flowers Used for Katherine Higgins's Arrangements

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Boutonnieres

You really can't go wrong with carnations. These added drama and depth to the floral arrangements and you also get your bang for your buck.

I bought these to add height when using the whole stem and for a nice, soft bloom when using only the most open- they did great! I actually really liked the soft green unopened buds in centerpieces and the open blooms help up well in the corsages.

Purple Passion Wedding Centerpieces ( 20 Small Centerpieces )

Used for: Centerpieces , Other

This centerpiece combo was a fantastic way to get a variety of blooms and filler, all within the color scheme. It allowed us to vary each centerpiece while staying within a general "look." If you're having trouble picking out specific blooms and an accommodate a little chance, variety is the way to go! A fair amount of the asiatic lilies didn't open in time for the wedding, despite urging them along, but the remaining blooms were perfect and hardy.

Lavender Freesia Flower ( 80 to 100 stems )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Boutonnieres

We did have a hang up initially and were sent "Lavender" instead of "Lavender Freesia," but, after calling customer service, they were rushed to us. I wished the blooms were more open, but that's likely a result of the shorter timeframe with the rushed order. I really liked the shape and the interest these provided.

Dusty Miller Greens ( 10 bunches, 100 Stems )

Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets , Corsages, Boutonnieres

Dang it, I hate to give a bad review, but so many of the leaves went limp on me that I have to. It seemed that the more they were handled, the more doomed they were - trimming the stems and putting them in water did NOT perk them up. I also called customer service multiple times to check what I should do and followed their directions. Even so, many of minimally handled leaves would droop out of the arrangements, so they had to be propped up by other flowers. The color, however, is nice.

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Bridesmaid's Bouquets

I'd give these less than four starts because they're so delicate and tricky to work with, except they're just too stunning. Keep in mind that they're finicky to open, but when they do, they're beautiful. I have to say I'd use them again! Also, Fifty Flowers did a great job of packaging them.
