Vintage Wildflowers--Beyond Romantic!

Rebecca Olsen (Bride) Galena, IL
Our wedding was an intimate affair at a location close to our family's hearts. We have been vacationing in Galena, IL nearly every year since we were children, and my father since he was a child. If you have not yet visited this gem, the historic district downtown Galena feels like you have stepped back in time, with shop after shop winding along the picturesque curve of main street's old brick store fronts. We wanted our wedding to reflect this history, not necessarily by being period-specific, but with a vintage, soft, romantic feel as if the flowers were picked right out of a neighboring field. Our wedding colors were a true coral in the bright red-orange hue and a soft mint green in the more ... yellow family. We choose Lisianthus for the soft fluttery white petals, Snapdragons in the Orange Sorbet color to bring in a pop of color, David Austin Rose Peach Juliet for the vintage rose-garden appeal, and New Love Baby's Breath to echo the vintage feel, but also to strengthen the wildflower look. Though vintage mason jars are used more commonly in weddings currently, this look emanated the overall historic perspective of the restaurant so perfectly, especially when filled with our "wildflowers." Exposed brick walls and dark natural wood tables and chairs set off the playful design. I could not be more happy about how easy it was to care for the flowers upon receipt, and for my aunt's magical touch with arranging them to match my vision for our big day. When we walked into the room, my groom and I both were overwhelmed with the beauty of these flowers and how wonderfully they filled up the space. I would recommend using FiftyFlowers.com to anyone who is willing and able to put in just a little bit of elbow grease in advance, and who have a team of supporters for the wedding day who can reasonably help put your vision together. My aunt had a team of about 8 other family members who followed my sketches and her direction, and for our reception of 80 people, they were able to put it all together in less than a couple of hours. Also, because we purposefully chose to have a smaller destination wedding and we did the flowers ourselves, we were able to afford considerably higher caliber flower arrangements within our budget compared to a couple of florists from whom we had received quotes at much higher rates. Thank you to FiftyFlowers.com for helping to make our day magical! I included some pictures of my bouquet too, but it was not made from the flowers we ordered. Instead, it is literally the same varieties of flowers, but my brother's friend owns a floral shop and offered to make that for us to save some stress! Show more

Flowers Used for Rebecca Olsen's Arrangements

This color of snapdragon set off the tables in such a vibrant manner, while still maintaining a vintage, just picked from a field look. We received numerous compliments. I didn't originally plan to use snapdragons, but I am so happy that I did! Their value for the price in comparison to the amount of flowers that you will receive is outstanding, especially considering the volume they add to the centerpiece!

Baby's breath is more than just a filler--it adds to a romantic, wildflower look and helps to offset other full, soft flowers effectively. I originally planned to use large bunches of baby's breath as a stand alone, but instead decided to mix it with the snapdragons and the effect was stunning. The New Love flowers are larger than I would have expected, and very fragrant. I was pleasantly surprised! I ended up ordering more than I actually needed, but we used the leftovers in a large bucket that we draped fabric around, and it was a fun statement when you walked into our reception space.

The Lisianthus were beautiful, romantic, and soft. The bunches were smaller than I expected however, especially in comparison to the rest of the flowers we ordered. However, they were the perfect compliment to our vintage wildflower vision.

I cannot begin to describe how beautiful these roses looked in our displays. Many guests asked what kind of flower it was thinking maybe it belonged to the peony family, and gushed about how beautiful they were. You don't need very many to make a strong statement either! We used them sparingly, and they made a stronger statement for that reason. Worth every penny.
