Bulk Roses are shipped directly from our farms to your doorstep. Before shipping your flowers, we prepare them for their journey with proper hydration methods. If your flowers appear sleepy and thirsty after their journey, it is absolutely NORMAL. Just follow these simple steps to ensure your flowers have the proper care.

Tip: Wear protective gloves while handling your roses. Thorns may be present and tinted roses can stain hands and clothing.

  1. When your boxes arrive, it is important to get your flowers in water as quickly as possible.
  2.  Remove roses from box by cutting any straps. Do not remove the cardboard sleeve that is holding the roses together in a bunch. It is recommended to leave the cardboard sleeve on for 4 to 8 hours while the roses hydrate and then remove once well hydrated. Remove all plastic packaging and rubber bands.
  3. Inspect your flowers.*
  4. Gather clean buckets, vases, or containers for your flowers. Ensure your buckets, vases containers are very clean. We recommend rinsing them with warm water.
  5. Fill the buckets or containers with at least 4 inches of fresh, cool water. If flower food is available, follow the package directions for adding it to the water.
  6. Remove any foliage from the flowers that falls below the waterline of your containers. When removing foliage, care should be taken to not damage the stem. Removing any foliage that falls below the waterline will help prevent the  growth of mold or bacteria which could cause premature wilting.
  7. Cut stems diagonally under running water using clean, sharp flower shears or scissors. Cut approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the stem. Immediately after cutting, place the stems in the prepared water.
  8. Ensure that you have sufficient room in each container for the amount of stems you will be storing. Overcrowding may cause damage to flowers and effect proper blooming.
  9. Allow the roses at least 4 hours to hydrate well. It can take up to 8 to 12 hours to properly hydrate. If you see that some flowers are still drooping after 3-4 hours, it it  possible an air bubble has formed in the stem.  Re-cut following the above directions.
  10. Keep flowers in a cool, dark location away from direct sunlight, drafts, or extreme temperatures and heat.
  11. To keep your flowers fresh, change the water every 24 to 48 hours or when the water becomes cloudy. The water will change color if the roses are tinted.. Simply change water as directed. Ensure that your flowers have sufficient water at all times. They will drink an exceptionally large amount of water upon arrival.
  12. We ship our roses with guard petals intact in order to protect the rose during shipping. Upon removal of the protective cardboard packaging, carefully pluck off any brown or discolored guard petals. It is not uncommon to remove an average of 5-10 petals per rose.

Remember that exposing flowers  to warm temperatures will help the flower to bloom, and storing your flowers in a cooler environment will slow down the blooming process.

*Note: Our roses are packed 25 stems per bunch. Looking at the bunch from above it will appear as if there are only 12 roses. Our roses are packed in layers to ensure protection during shipping. Below the first layer is a second layer which hold the other 13 rose stems. If you are unsure, count the STEMS instead of the rose heads and you will see there are 25 per bunch.

*If upon first inspection, you foresee a problem with your flowers, do not proceed processing your order. Leave the flowers intact in the box and call us immediately at 1-877-50 ROSES (507-6737

A Boho-tanical Wedding

My husband and I met working in a lab studying plants together in Ottawa, so despite living elsewhere now, we found it fitting to get married in the city where we met. We were limited in our options for venues since we had a large wedding and were very lucky to book The Horticulture Building - the size was perfect, the industrial warehouse style of the venue was beautiful, and the name was a nice bonus!

I've never been particularly interested in wedding "themes", but the plant theme was unavoidable for two plant biologists getting married at The Horticulture Building. The flowers were a very important part of creating the boho/botanical look I had envisioned for our wedding day. My mother-in-law used to work as a florist and with the help of my sister-in-law, made bouquets that were beyond my wildest Pinterest dreams. The rest of the ladies did a great job helping me to arrange flowers in the old beer bottles and science-store bottles we had been collecting over the last few years in anticipation for the wedding. I also put together some larger arrangements for around the venue. A close family friend did a fantastic job adding flowers to the eucalyptus garland we ordered to drape over the front of our chuppah (that my husband built himself with birch trees he cut down from his parents' property!).

While there was a bit of scare with the flowers arriving on time (there were some delays and hold-ups at customs), they made it in time for us to get all of the flowers done and the flowers had enough time to take up sufficient water that they looked great at the wedding. We did have other flowers along with what we ordered from fiftyflowers.com, but the roses and ranunculus were the basis of the floral colour palette I wanted, and they were amazing. The roses were huge when they opened up and so lovely, and the range of ranunculus colours in the peachy watermelon order were stunning. I always wanted to have a garland draped over our chuppah and the seeded eucalyptus was the perfect choice.

Dreamy Handmade Wedding!

I've always dreamt of bride, what girl hasn't? I knew, when the big day came I wanted to have a hand in as much as possible... And my dream came true! I'm a very creative and artsy person so I had a CLEAR vision of how I wanted the decor to look... but also, a budget. I'm always looking for ways to make something my own, or finding inspiration and recreating something. Looking back on my wedding day, I am so proud that everything was so personal to my husband and me. My sister-in-law did my hair, my maid of honor made our cake topper (little cork versions of us!), my father's band played our reception... everyone's talents were utilized! I designed and printed the invitations, handcrafted, stained and lettered all the signage, folded 1,000 paper cranes into a display, and created my seating chart from my husbands grandfathers suitcase among other projects... so, to me doing my own floral arranging wasn't even a question... it was just something that was going to happen. I did a ton of research, watched a LOT of YouTube tutorials and felt VERY confident in my abilities to make this fairytale flower dream a reality! For our centerpieces my stepfather helped me spray paint mason jars a beautiful metallic gold which we placed on rounds from a tree that was cut down in our backyard. (Don't worry, the tree had to come down...being able to use the wood slices was a happy accident!) Our Venue, The Lodge at Welch Allyn in Skaneateles Falls, NY has a HUGE fireplace about three stories tall and a sprawling huge dining room with Floor to ceiling windows. The venue itself had the rustic feel I wanted, but I knew we would need a ton of florals to bring in a soft, cozy feel to the day that I really wanted. My husband trusted me the whole way. I had two calls with Violet who truly guided me and helped me make my vision a reality. She nicknamed me the "Texture Bomb" Bride. I was so drawn to soft, feminine fluffy blooms (especially garden roses) in contrast with cool unique textures like thistle, astrantia and the GORGEOUS Evening Sun Dahlias. I was very thankful that she steered me away from the anemones, which I had originally planned on having as my focal flower. When the flowers arrived, we turned my mother's basement into a full-fledged nursery. My stepfather and I sprayed the dahlias (who were already full and beautiful) nightly with crowning glory and kept all the flowers hydrated and with fresh flower food. I loved looking after the blooms, watching them open up and preparing them for the big day - arrangement day! My maid of honor helped me turn the boxes the flowers were shipped in into transportation for the vessels on the big day. Everyone stepped up to help! We all had gloves and a pair of shears. We had so much fun creating the bouquets and centerpieces! It was a LOT of work but paid off in a big way! We had SO much filler left over I sent my brother to the dollar store- he came back with more tall vases and we used as much as we could transport. These arrangements ended up on the entry tables, fireplaces, you name it! Any blank space with filled in with beautiful blooms!. I even started wiring together eucalyptus garlands last minute with all the leftovers- this was my favorite because they fit perfectly on the fireplace where we ended up doing our "First Look" photos due to bad weather... and it looked perfect! I felt like a real live Disney Princess walking down the aisle. If anyone tells you you're crazy for wanting to do you're own flowers- you're not! I wouldn't change a thing and I would absolutely use FiftyFlowers again, probably sooner rather than later since I'm now the honorary florist amongst my friends, and my maid of honor is tying the knot next year! The quality of the flowers was top notch and the selection was unbelievable. Grab your creative friends and family members and have fun!

DIY Centerpiece Combo Box

I ordered a DIY combo box order in November as a trial for my August wedding. I wanted to see how long the flowers took to open, what color they actually were, and how many centerpieces I could make with the box. In the end, I was able to make 20 mason jar centerpieces with the combo box, with a great deal of greenery (no roses) left over.

When the first order arrived, the wrong color roses were in my combo pack. The customer service representative was extremely apologetic and helpful in arranging for the correct color roses to arrive, at no extra cost to me of course. Unfortunately, next day air was not available due to the Thanksgiving holiday. As this was only a trial, I was content with waiting three days for the correct color to arrive. When the replacement package arrived it had the correct color roses, however, instead of the 40 spray roses advertised, only 20 arrived. Again, the customer service representative could not have been more surprised at this error and she refunded me half of my order (as the rest of the order was intact and correct). I could have received a whole new order, however, I declined and accepted the partial refund because this was a trial and I only needed the correct color and amount to determine the look and amount of centerpieces I could make. While I experienced 2 errors in 2 orders, the customer service was extremely helpful and swift in offering replacements or refunds, so I would use them again.

A Fairy Tale Wedding

We had a destination wedding and even though there was some confusion in getting the flowers to our resort and the calla lilies did not get sent; fiftyflowers.com was able to get all the flowers to me in time for me to make my bouquets! The flowers looked fabulous and as fresh as can be! I carried burgundy black mini callas, Charlotte red roses and green Cymbidium Orchids. My maids carried bouquets of Vendela cream roses, green Hypericum Berry and green Cymbidum Orchids. My Mother carried a small bouquet of Charlotte red roses and Burgundy Mini Callas. I also had the green Cymbidum Orchids on our cake. I was very happy with the quality of all the flowers and will be using fiftyflowers.com in the future.
