If your flowers appear sleepy and thirsty after their journey, it is absolutely NORMAL. Just follow these simple steps to ensure your flowers have the proper care.

Tip: Wear protective gloves while handling your roses. Thorns may be present and tinted roses can stain hands and clothing.

  1. When your boxes arrive, it is important to get your flowers in water as quickly as possible.
  2.  Remove roses from box by cutting any straps. Do not remove the cardboard sleeve that is holding the roses together in a bunch. It is recommended to leave the cardboard sleeve on for 4 to 8 hours while the roses hydrate and then remove once well hydrated. Remove all plastic packaging and rubber bands.
  3. Inspect your flowers.*
  4. Gather clean buckets, vases, or containers for your flowers. Ensure your buckets, vases containers are very clean. We recommend rinsing them with warm water.
  5. Fill the buckets or containers with at least 4 inches of fresh, cool water. If flower food is available, follow the package directions for adding it to the water.
  6. Remove any foliage from the flowers that falls below the waterline of your containers. When removing foliage, care should be taken to not damage the stem. Removing any foliage that falls below the waterline will help prevent the  growth of mold or bacteria which could cause premature wilting.
  7. Cut stems diagonally under running water using clean, sharp flower shears or scissors. Cut approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the stem. Immediately after cutting, place the stems in the prepared water.
  8. Ensure that you have sufficient room in each container for the amount of stems you will be storing. Overcrowding may cause damage to flowers and effect proper blooming.
  9. Allow the roses at least 4 hours to hydrate well. It can take up to 8 to 12 hours to properly hydrate. If you see that some flowers are still drooping after 3-4 hours, it it  possible an air bubble has formed in the stem.  Re-cut following the above directions.
  10. Keep flowers in a cool, dark location away from direct sunlight, drafts, or extreme temperatures and heat.
  11. To keep your flowers fresh, change the water every 24 to 48 hours or when the water becomes cloudy. The water will change color if the roses are tinted.. Simply change water as directed. Ensure that your flowers have sufficient water at all times. They will drink an exceptionally large amount of water upon arrival.
  12. We ship our roses with guard petals intact in order to protect the rose during shipping. Upon removal of the protective cardboard packaging, carefully pluck off any brown or discolored guard petals. It is not uncommon to remove an average of 5-10 petals per rose.
Remember that exposing flowers  to warm temperatures will help the flower to bloom, and storing your flowers in a cooler environment will slow down the blooming process.

*Note: Our roses are packed 25 stems per bunch. Looking at the bunch from above it will appear as if there are only 12 roses. Our roses are packed in layers to ensure protection during shipping. Below the first layer is a second layer which hold the other 13 rose stems. If you are unsure, count the STEMS instead of the rose heads and you will see there are 25 per bunch.

*If upon first inspection, you foresee a problem with your flowers, do not proceed processing your order. Leave the flowers intact in the box and call us immediately at 1-877-50 ROSES (507-6737

Romantic Midwest Summer Wedding

I originally decided to do my own flowers because I couldn't make peace with spending $2,000 on a florist. When I came across Fifty Flowers I loved how easy it was to navigate the website to find the flowers that I wanted. However, I was still a little nervous about undertaking such a big project right before my wedding with no prior floral arranging experience. But after spending months on this site and reading all of the other brides stories, I was confident that I could make it work.

My biggest worry was that the flowers would wilt before the wedding, and that I wouldn't be able to do anything about it. So I read and printed out all of the flower care instructions and bought some additional products to help my flowers stay hydrated. First off, 5 gallon buckets are a must, don't try to store them in anything else. Second, I bought Floralife QuickDip, Crowning Glory, and Floral Food to keep my flowers healthy. These products worked great, because my flowers looked perfect the day of. So getting some additional things to help the flowers retain water is a good and pretty cheap idea that could make a big difference if you're worried about wilting.

Getting the flowers prepped takes a long time, so make sure that you have someone to help, or that you're able to set aside your whole day to it. Once they're prepped make sure that you put them in a cold, dark room and just let them sit. I put them in an unused bedroom in my house with black out curtains with the AC on and some fans running and that worked out great. Also, I was kind of nervous about the roses not opening up on the day that I got them. But by the day of the wedding they were huge and beautiful, so it just takes some flowers some more time than others.

What took the most time were putting together the centerpieces, everything else was a total piece of cake. For the centerpieces I had a manzanita tree painted white, and then I secured it to a Lomey Design Dish by gluing it into a piece of crafting foam and then gluing the crafting foam to the dish. Then I filled the dish with floral foam, and started off by putting various greenery in place. After the greenery was pretty full, I placed two of each kind of flower in the foam on opposite ends.

We also had a TON of leftover flowers. I was able to run out and pick up some cheap vases that we filled with flowers and placed all over the venue. I think we probably had about 20 vases of flowers around the venue in addition to everything else.

Overall I am super, super happy with my choice in Fifty Flowers. I saved a ton of money and was still able to have the flowers of my dreams. Also putting them together with my bridesmaids was a ton of fun, and probably one of my best memories of that day. I would recommend them to anyone!

White Tulip Wedding

The tulips arrived on time, two days before my wedding. I did not want the blooms to open too much, so we put the in the fridge with some home made flower food. The day before the wedding, all my bridesmaids and three of the aunts taped the flowers into bouquets and boutonnieres then tied white ribbon around them. It turned out simple, but lovely. Thank you for the beautiful and on-time flowers!

A huge success thanks to Fifty Flowers!

Living on the west coast with a wedding on the east coast posed challenges as I unsuccessfully attempted to locate a local floral supplier for beautiful, cost effective flowers. After pondering various online sources, I ended up recommending the bride-to-be use Fifty Flowers based on many positive testimonials, the wide variety of flowers to choose from, and the value for the dollar. The flowers were delivered on a Thursday for a Saturday wedding. I had carefully studied the care instructions and prepared the flowers to the exacting details. Some of the flowers arrived VERY sleepy and I was concerned but extremely pleased as they all quickly rebounded and looked gorgeous. I placed two separate orders of: High Arena Creamy Peach Roses, Peachy Cantaloupe Garden Roses, Dahlia Style Cremon Snowflake football mums and the Monochromatic White Combo Pack. The only disappointment was that no matter what I tried, I couldn't seem to coach the Garden Roses to open to a fuller bloom. Customer service exceeded my expectations. They were quick to call me with each of the two separate shipments to make sure I had received everything and that the flowers were in good condition. After expressing some concern about the daisies and Alstroemerias, they called back a few hours later to ask if they were starting to revive; which they were. I'll admit, the Alstroemerias looked terrible when they arrived and it was almost like they came back from the dead. They turned out absolutely perfect. Thank you Fifty Flowers! Floral design is my new hobby and I'll recommend Fifty Flowers to other DIY brides I work with in the future.
