Caring for Lily of the Valley

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that fall below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate, though 8 to 12 hours is ideal. After hydrating, remove protective packaging.

  • Cold Storage: After hydrating, place Lily of the Valley in a refrigerator or floral cooler. The temperature must remain at or above 34°F to avoid freezing.

  • Storage Tip: Do not store near fruits or vegetables. Lily of the Valley is highly sensitive to ethylene gas, which is released by produce and can cause browning or flower damage.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24–48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

My friends wedding with my personal touch with flo

I met up with a child hood/neighbor that I hadn't seen in years. We reconnected and re-kindled our friendship. She tells me she met someone and he brings her flowers and they spend a lot of time together. It turns out the person she is talking in about is a friend of my husbands and myself...we went to his first wedding now divorced, My girlfriend was telling us about him and my husband looked at me and we both knew who she was talking about. They both were living in the same condo complex...he would talk about her and she would talk about him but neither had no idea we were friends with both of them. We talked with the gentleman and the girlfriend to have dinner together at my home but the gentleman had no idea we knew his girlfriend that I had grown up with her. Then they tell us they are getting married and I offered to do the flowers for the reception tables as a present from me. They loved them and so did everyone else. I am not a florist but love to arrange flowers.

Wonderful Flowers for May Wedding

After doing much research on the internet for reviews and pictures, we decided to use FiftyFlowers. We ordered 72 white garden roses, 72 pink garden roses, and 40 stems of blue hydrangeas. I received a call the week of the wedding telling me that the pink garden roses did not turn out and I was offered pink peonies. This was fine with me as I love peonies and they included some extra stems for free. If you are weary of ordering from FiftyFlowers, trust me, I was too! I was very nervous, but when my flowers arrived I almost cried because they were so beautiful. They were exactly what I wanted and I got so much more for my money than I would have anywhere else. Everyone that came to my wedding remarked how beautiful the flowers were, how much they loved them, and how they could not believe they were ordered online. I'm a big flower person and these were probably my favorite part of my wedding. They were beautiful, fragrant, and lush. Absolutely everything I had hoped for. I would definitely order from here again any time I need flowers and would definitely recommend to any bride planning a wedding! Awesome awesome awesome!
