Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is absolutely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

As flowers are a natural product of Mother Nature and monitor resolutions can differ, the exact color tones of this flower may vary to some degree.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. While we will make every effort to contact you, there may be rare instances where we are unable to reach you in time. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Roses

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable), and remove guard petals (outer layers that may look bruised or brown).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Precautions

  • Thorns: Flowers with thorns require extra care. Wear gloves when handling them, and consider using a thorn stripping tool for added ease and safety.

A red-orange rose

Star 2000 is a beautiful rose but very heavy red hues. It was Ok for a Thanksgiving arrangement, but I would have preferred a most burnt orange look. The rose itself had a thick stem that took up a lot of room in floral foam. It had numerous thorns. Rose was lovely in its bud stage, but never did actually open up into a beautiful bloom. Lasted about a week in the arrangement. Shipping was perfect, as always with Fifty Flowers. Roses arrived fresh and hydrated in a couple of hours. Fifty Flowers by far had the greatest variety of roses available, the best customer service and all-around the best supplier in my opinion, although a little pricier than some of the other options.

Hi Mitzi,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on the Star 2000 Orange Rose. We greatly appreciate hearing about your experience, as it helps us continuously improve and serve our customers better.
We're thrilled to know that you find our shipping process reliable and efficient, and that the roses arrived fresh and hydrated. It’s also wonderful to hear that you value our variety of roses, customer service, and overall quality. Your support means a lot to us!
We understand that the color tone and bloom performance didn’t fully meet your expectations. While we strive to depict the colors of our flowers as accurately as possible, factors like monitor resolution, weather conditions, and natural variations can occasionally influence how the final product appears (as noted on our product pages). These factors are part of the unique charm of working with nature's creations but can sometimes present challenges for creating a precise color match. We will be using your feedback to include more information about the color of these roses!
We’re also glad to know you enjoyed the Pumpkin Spice Garden Roses! Their rich, warm tones really do capture that beautiful burnt orange look, perfect for Thanksgiving arrangements.
Thank you again for your thoughtful review, and we hope to have the pleasure of serving you again soon.
