Caring for Calla Lilies
Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.
Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement
Step 1: Unpack and Inspect
Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.
Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey.
Step 2: Prepare the Containers
Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt.
Fill Containers: Add at least 2 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available. Shallow water will minimize curling of the stem ends.
Step 3: Trim and Place in Water
Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that fall below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.
Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom.
Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.
Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain
Hydration Time: Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate. Calla Lilies may take up to 12 hours to fully hydrate.
Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool (but not too cool - Callas prefer temperatures above 45 degrees), dark area away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat.
Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival. Refill as needed and ensure stems stay submerged.
Change Water Daily: Calla Lilies retain plenty of water in their stems but are sensitive to bacteria. To prevent the stems from curling upward, change the water daily and maintain a water level of at least 2 inches.
Step 5: Time to Design
Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.
Recut and Maintain: Recut stems during arranging and monitor water levels.
Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24–48 hours.
Change Water Daily: Calla Lilies retain plenty of water in their stems but are sensitive to bacteria. To prevent the stems from curling upward, change the water daily and maintain a water level of at least 2 inches.

The calla lillies were beautiful for our wedding day. They were packed beautifully and were simple to clean up and prepare for the day. The stems were long and incredible and allowed for us to customize the lengths for all of the bouquets and arrangements. I got this kit along with the White Wedding Bells kit and they looked great together. My only detractor was that I would have loved if they would have opened up a little bit more for the wedding day - I tried using flower food, periodic time in the sun and in wamer parts of our house, and a humidifier, and they didn't open up as much as I had hoped. They honestly opened up more after a week of having them. I'm still really happy with them and they looked stunning, just wished they would have opened up more. However, I'm happy that they all were in beautiful condition - no browning or issues like that in any of them when they arrived which was amazing.
