Shabby Chic Fairytale

The stereotype, “every little girl dreams of a fairy-tale wedding,” was oh-so true for this small-town farm girl. From flowers to light fixtures, I had a carefully created, down-home, shabby-chic wedding planned in my mind…the only problem was figuring out how to copy these plans from my mind's library and paste them into reality. So how do you make sure everything is done right? You do it yourself of course! With help from our family and friends, we began building our fairy-tale wedding from the ground up…literally! Right down to the barn/pavilion we built to say our “I-dos.”

As with any special occasion, flowers were an essential part of our decorating scheme. Fortunately, our family friend is a talented floral arranger and offered her magical touch in everything flowers. My one, firm request was astilbe. So delicate and unique, the astilbe accented our touches of vintage lace perfectly. From there, we added all sorts of wild flower fillers in tones of white, ivory and blush. My bridal bouquet was clothed in white astilbe with accents of white aster, assorted flowers from our “vintage wedding flower combo pack,” white football mums and a touch of pink astilbe all held together with five different strands of vintage lace. The bridesmaid's bouquets were simple with a combination of white and pink astilbe tied with lace.

I was so pleased with the way our flower arrangements turned out, that I ended up drying a large variety. Today, they hang on our walls as a constant reminder of the day we lived our fairy-tale.
